Flow Meter

Product Overview

Industrial flow meters provide continuous volumetric and mass flow measurement for conductive and non-conductive liquids, gases, and steam within closed pipe networks. Engineered for heavy industrial operating conditions, these units integrate direct digital signal processing (DSP) to maintain measurement stability under fluctuating pressure and temperature profiles. Built for direct integration into PLC and DCS control architectures through standardized industrial communication protocols.

Measurement & Testing Principle

Depending on the selected configuration, the series operates on established physical measurement principles:

Electromagnetic (Magmeter)

Applies Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction. A magnetic field is generated across the pipe, and the velocity of conductive media (conductivity >= 5 uS/cm) induces a proportional voltage sensed by isolated electrodes.

Ultrasonic (Transit-Time)

Measures the time differential between acoustic signals transmitted upstream and downstream, calculating fluid velocity independent of media conductivity.

Vortex

Detects the frequency of von Karman vortex shedding behind a blunt bluff body inserted in the flow, directly proportional to flow velocity for liquids, gases, and steam.

Installation & Operating Considerations

Fixed Doppler Ultrasonic Flow Meter

Straight Pipe Requirements

Install meters maintaining a minimum of 5 x DN upstream and 3 x DN downstream straight pipe lengths to minimize turbulence caused by elbows, valves, or reducers.

High Accuracy Vortex Flow Meter

Full Pipe Condition

For electromagnetic and vortex types, the measuring tube must remain completely filled with liquid during operation to avoid measurement errors.

Fixed Doppler Ultrasonic Flow Meter

Grounding (Magmeters)

Proper grounding rings or grounding electrodes are mandatory on non-conductive plastic or lined pipes to eliminate stray electrical currents.

Manufacturing & Quality Control

Machining & Welding: Meter bodies are machined on 5-axis CNC centers from forged blanks to maintain wall thickness consistency and eliminate casting porosity. All pressure-retaining welds undergo NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) including dye penetrant inspection.

Calibration Facilities: Every unit is wet-calibrated on gravimetric or volumetric calibration rigs. Calibration rigs maintain an uncertainty of +/- 0.05% and issue individual calibration certificates showing 3-point test logs.

Pressure Testing: Hydrostatic pressure testing is executed at 1.5 x the maximum rated working pressure prior to final assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I select between an Electromagnetic Flow Meter and an Ultrasonic Flow Meter for water applications?

A: Select an electromagnetic meter for conductive liquids (>= 5 uS/cm) inside full pipes where high accuracy is required and minor pressure drop is acceptable. Select a clamp-on or insertion ultrasonic meter if retrofitting an existing large-diameter pipeline without cutting the pipe, or when the fluid lacks electrical conductivity.

Q: What is the minimum straight pipe run required upstream of the meter?

A: Standard installations require at least 5 pipe diameters (5 x DN) of straight pipe upstream and 3 pipe diameters (3 x DN) downstream. If the meter is installed immediately after a double elbow or a control valve, extend the upstream requirement to 10 x DN to ensure a fully developed flow profile.

Q: Are calibration certificates supplied with every meter?

A: Yes. Every individual flow meter undergoes wet calibration on a gravimetric or volumetric test bench before shipment. A calibration certificate detailing actual test points, error percentages, and traceability data is packed inside the instrument enclosure.

Q: What wetted materials should be specified for corrosive hydrochloric or sulfuric acid lines?

A: For aggressive acids, specify a PFA or PTFE lining combined with Hastelloy C-276 or Tantalum electrodes. Standard 316L stainless steel will experience pitting and chemical corrosion when exposed to concentrated acids over extended operating periods.

Q: Can these flow meters be installed outdoors in harsh weather conditions?

A: Yes. Transmitters feature die-cast aluminum enclosures sealed with continuous O-rings, rated to IP67 / NEMA 4X. They withstand ambient operating temperatures ranging from -40°C to +60°C without requiring supplementary protective enclosures.

Q: What is the standard lead time for standard configurations versus custom OEM builds?

A: Standard catalog configurations (DN15 to DN200 with standard 4-20mA/HART outputs and ANSI flanges) typically ship within 5 to 7 business days. Custom builds involving specialized wetted materials, non-standard flange drillings, or special communication firmware require 3 to 4 weeks following drawing approval.
